The birds of Djoudj National Park is the 3rd world ornithological reserve, with an area of 160 km2. Its creation dates back to 1971, registered in the world heritage of Unesco since 1981. Covering a portion of the delta of the Senegal River, consisting of many canals, lakes, swamps, massive reeds and a woodland savannah, this Sanctuary is one of the only green lands West South of the Sahara offering water permanently. This wet area draws more than 3 million birds for more than 350 species identified, whether they are sedentary or migratory. You can also cross servals, hyenas, lizards, pythons, golden jackals and crocodiles. The visit is usually done by canoe, but watchtowers are also installed in the most strategic locations.
